Projects
RAD-AID has numerous projects going on right now all over the world that you can participate in:
-
RAD-AID in China, 2013: RAD-AID sent five delegations to China since July 2010, and has been running an exchange lectureship program for radiologists to visit and teach in China. In August of 2013, RAD-AID will present in Beijing at the 10th Biennial International Symposium of the International Society for Strategic Studies in Radiology (IS3R) on radiology assessment and implementation in developing countries.
-
RAD-AID and World Health Organization (WHO): RAD-AID has been partnered with WHO Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) since 2011 to improve and implement Radiology-Readiness assessments in Latin America and the Caribbean. Projects with WHO include Guyana, Nicaragua, Haiti, Ecuador, and Jamaica. Efforts are underway to expand this partnership in Africa and the Geneva headquarters.
-
RAD-AID in India, 2010-2013: RAD-AID is working with PGIMER Chandigarh to implement and scale up Asha Jyoti, a mobile clinic van for osteoporosis, breast cancer and cervical cancer screening for indigent women in Northern India. RAD-AID recently sent a team to Chandigarh in May of 2013, with another team is working there in the summer of 2013. This program was awarded by the Clinton Global Initiative, "Champions of Action" plenary session, and continues to grow in underserved areas of India.
-
RAD-AID in Africa 2012-2013: RAD-AID is in Ghana Fall/Summer 2013 (see blog and FB forum for details) based on the Radiology-Readiness assessment in Ghana in 2012. RAD-AID has a program in development in Kenya, and has supported prior work in Uganda, Liberia, Rwanda and Ethiopia. RAD-AID Chapters are also building extensive service networks in Africa.
-
RAD-AID in Haiti 2010-2013: RAD-AID is working in Haiti in May 2013 to run educational workshops, assessments, and equipment planning for the last three years, in collaborations with health institutions based in Port-au-Prince and Milot. Ongoing work in Haiti is with CRUDEM Foundation and the World Health Organization Pan American Health Organization (WHO/PAHO).
-
RAD-AID Conferences: RAD-AID Conferences are held yearly at Johns Hopkins to host a dialog of presentations from all over the world on international radiology. RAD-AID 2013 will be the fifth year, with last year's participation more than doubling first year attendance. Registration for RAD-AID 2013 will be announced shortly.
-
RAD-AID Health Care Economics: RAD-AID believes that economic development should run in tandem with health care, in order to ensure long term sustainability. RAD-AID has begun working with the Deutsche Bank Foundation's Social Investment Funds Group to offer microfinance and health care training opportunities in developing countries.
-
RAD-AID/MBA partnerships: RAD-AID seeks MBA students to work with our radiologists, technologists, and health care personnel to design plans for new imaging services in the developing world. These key interdisciplinary teams enable business and health professionals to work together for optimized planning and technology implementation. You can learn more about RAD-AID's model partnership with Columbia School of Business HERE. If you are an MBA student and you or your business school program are interested in working with RAD-AID, please contact us at info@rad-aid.org.
-
RAD-AID Global Health Textbook Project: RAD-AID won a contract from Springer Media to write a textbook on the implementation of radiology in the developing world. The textbook aims to educate residents, students, public health officials, humanitarian aid workers and clinical caregivers on the logistics and planning of imaging services in regions having limited resources.
-
RAD-AID Learning Management System: RAD-AID is building an online learning educational system so that health personnel in the developing world can gain new skills and refresh key knowledge areas for clinical imaging. Courses are in development for the LMS to be available in 2012. If you are interested in being an author or instructor on the RAD-AID LMS, please email info@rad-aid.org.
Here is how RAD-AID develops its projects. RAD-AID has developed a 5 step evaluation method to determine where our services are most in need, and how best to implement those services to achieve the greatest impact.
-
Evaluate the health profile of a country/region to determine the need for radiology services, and obtain current information on health systems already in place in the region.
-
Assess Radiology Readiness, which means examining the context for radiology services and whether radiology can be effectively and efficiently integrated into a community or facility's health care system.
-
Determine what potential partners (government, NGOs, IGOs) are currently operating in the region for this highest level of effectiveness.
-
Provide the personnel and training for health professionals based on the evaluation of specific regional needs.
-
Monitor the progress of the implemented program, and maintain an active role in the perpetuation of that program.
