RAD-AID Bhutan performed a Radiology-Readiness assessment in 2014 and completed a follow-up visit to Bhutan in the summer of 2015. Our first outreach in Bhutan was performed by Dr. Miriam Mikhail, RAD-AID Consultant to the World Health Organization. We then collaborated with Dr. Bob Morrow of the George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences and The American Bhutanese Associates for Health Foundation, Inc. (www.abahfound.org) for follow up assessment and radiology planning.

2015 Plans for RAD-AID Bhutan

In 2015, RAD-AID worked with Dr. Morrow to send two students from GW School of Medicine, Danielle Canter and Trent Hope to work on radiology outreach in Bhutan. Ms. Canter is studying Bhutanese maternal attitudes toward pediatric radiology and mothers’ cultural perspectives of radiologic imaging of their infants.  Mr. Hope is studying gastric cancer imaging in Bhutan, with emphasis on the underserved region of Mongar.

There will be follow-up work to complete the Bhutan RAD-AID Radiology-Readiness assessment, with efforts to engage public health officials in Bhutan in the improvement of radiology health care resources in the country.

A key support for our pediatric radiology outreach in Bhutan comes also from the RAD-AID Chapter at Children’s National of Washington DC.
