Volunteer with RAD-AID Medical Physics
Medical physics is a practice dedicated to improving quality and safety in radiology, radiation oncology, and nuclear medicine. The aims of the RAD-AID Medical Physics program are to:
- Provide didactic training in radiation safety and MRI safety
- Help to develop sustainable quality assurance programs to maintain high-quality procedures and ensure the ongoing safety of patients, staff, and the general public
- Help to assess and modify existing protocols and help with new protocol development
- Assess existing radiation shielding and advise on new shielding design, implementation, and verification
- Help to ensure compliance with local regulations concerning radiation exposure and quality control
- Advise on the purchasing of new medical imaging and radiation therapy systems and aid in their acceptance testing and commissioning
- Serve as a bridge between the different disciplines within radiology, radiation oncology, and nuclear medicine
Volunteers from all disciplines are welcome to join the RAD-AID Medical Physics program and participate in the above objectives. For questions, please email seinstein@rad-aid.org.
A cornerstone of RAD-AID’s methodology is Radiology Readiness, a systematic data collection tool for assessing how healthcare imaging technology can be planned and implemented to best match the medical needs and infrastructure/personnel resources of a community. The RAD-AID Medical Physics Program utilizes a discipline-specific readiness tool to that same effect, which is found below in English and Spanish.
